Organisations Background
Nhlayiso Community Health and Counselling Centre (NCHCC) is one of the active existing non-profit organisations in South Africa. Nhlayiso CHCC is a community based organisation situated in the area of Nkowankowa, Greater Tzaneen Municipality under Mopani District in the Limpopo Province. The organisation was founded in 2001 and registered in 22 August 2002 as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development. NCHCC came into existence with an aim of providing care and support to people living with HIV and AIDS including other chronic illnesses, orphans and vulnerable children and to respond to the growing mortality rate resulting from HIV epidemic and increasing number of orphans and vulnerable children.
Our vision is to see ‘empowered communities in which dignity and hope are restored’. To achieve this vision, Nhlayiso implements peer led programs in order to ensure that beneficiaries are reached in a manner that is appropriate to their circumstances. Our core values are human development, education, respect, human dignity, and open communication. At the heart of our programmes we seek to reduce risky sexual behaviour among different key population as identified in the country‘s national strategic plan.
The organisation is aiming at reducing the level of stigma and discrimination against all diseases, combat/reduce death rate, have fewer orphans and win community trust by helping them to address their needs and any social issues affecting them, such as poverty eradication, reduction in equality, encourage youth to start businesses focusing on the reduction in unemployment, make verifiable impact and motivate young people to use available resources to access opportunities.
We consider cooperation as necessary tool for development process. Therefore, we maintain partnerships with different stakeholders, being aware of the importance of every single pillar: local communities, authorities, other organisations and individuals at national and international level.
Families, communities’ especially young people are extremely affected by the country’s problems such as poverty, poor health and lack of economic opportunities. They are consistently excluded from important decision-making processes that affect their lives .Nhlayiso CHDIC strongly believes that young people are capable, creativity and have a will to do things differently in their lifetime. They are an asset to the development of this country and communities of their own, by saying it means that with the right guidance and support from relevant stakeholders, role players and opportunities given they can become influential leaders of positive change agents of our country.
Together we can fight whatever challenge the country is facing that affect our social lives.
